Stripping of the Nissan

To get the body of the Nissan onto the Unimog one muct 1st remove it from the Nissan, so during the course of the weekend I spent about 3 hours and stripped the Nissan down to what you see here.

I have removed the bed, fenders, bumper, grill, and cowl.  The only things left to remove are the hood and doors.  Those will wait until we are ready to pull the cab.  The process of stripping went MUCH quicker than I thought it would.

Just for fun we se the bed on the Unimog.

We are going to tub the bed to allow the shock/spring mount to fit into the wheelwell, and have space to move around.
Once we tub the fender, the bed can move down the 3-4" to near it's final position.  The bed rails will still be about 5'2" off the ground.
The wheel openings will also be "adjusted" to allow for the tires to fit in snugly.
The bed will be bobbed so the tailgat sits flush with the rear crossmember.

While storing the roofrack in the bed, a design came to us for the spare tire/bedbox/storage in the bed.

This rack will me modified slightly and returned to the roof of the cab (for the time being) and a full width basket will be built for the bed.  The bed will contain the following.

A custom built bed box in the front of the bed.  For my Hi-lift, and tools
A full width basket that is on a roller system.
The basket will contain the spare tire, gas cans, and the old battery boxes, now used as storage containers.  The rack will be on rollers in a track that will allow it to be locked in the front of the bed, or for it to roll to the back, and down to the floor, for acess to the spare tire.
